Event Synopsis:

China’s State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), without a doubt, are a crucial driving force behind China’s economic performance. Their entrenched links to the political system and the government’s continual efforts in its structural transformation are closely watched by academics, financial and political analysts.

The latest signal by the Chinese government to gradually loosen its grip on SOEs towards open market practices has been seen as the right step forward but skepticism abounds on its possible achievement.

This China SOEs’ Academic Roundtable brings together two distinguished professors from NUS Business School who will present their recent research findings on China SOEs: effects of direct and indirect state-ownership on firm’s performance; effects of managers’ political ranks on firms’ stock price crash risk. This will be followed by a focused discussion on SOEs in China: From Control to Reforms.

This Academic Roundtable is jointly organised by China Business Centre (CBC), Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organisations (CGIO) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
