'Cerebration' - a combination of 'Cerebral' and 'Celebration'

Not just an MBA challenge, Cerebration is our way of recognizing the thought process of the leaders of tomorrow and also the power of business graduates in shaping the destiny of an organization. It is a 'real life' exercise that provides an opportunity to MBA students worldwide to take the leap from classroom learning and truly engage themselves with the world's leading organisations.

Our Genesis

Cerebration started in 2005 and is one of the world's leading Masters-level business challenges. The founding idea for this competition emerged from the NUS Centennial Celebrations. NUS Business School is working towards growing Cerebration into Asia's most prestigious and recognized MBA event.

Past Competitions

Year 2014

Cerebration 2014 was the 10th anniversary of the student organized case competition with over 600 teams registered from 150 business schools from 34 different countries around the world.

Six teams from the United States and India were flown to Singapore to attend the semi-final and final rounds to solve the real-life business challenges presented by Daimler Financial Services and Spring Singapore.

Team Three Wise Monkey's from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) took the grand prize by impressing judges with their thorough research and comprehensive proposal.

Cerebration 2013 attracted more that 650 entries from 117 business schools around the world.

Nine semi-finalist teams from the United States, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong and India presented their solutions to real business challenges faced by by Daimler Financial Services, Monsanto and Lenovo.

Team UNCYYM from Kenan-Flagler Business School emerged as winners after a grueling competition with the finalists from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and The Indian School of Business.

The judging panel comprised of industry experts from our case sponsors, Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Mercer, Standard Chartered, SIA Engineering and Spring Singapore.

Cerebration 2012 saw the competition's highest-ever participation rates. With 724 teams, a 38% increase from 2011, Cerebration confirmed its status among the largest case competitions worldwide.

Semi-finalists from the United States, United Kingdom, India, the Philippines, and China were flown into Singapore to present their solutions before experienced NUS faculty and our case sponsors BP, Lenovo, and Cognizant Technology Solutions.

UdayKevinSune from London Business School took the grand prize, followed by Team IBTIDA from CEIBS, Shanghai and Team High Aimers from AIM, Manila in runner-up positions.

The competition doubled in size in 2011 with close to 600 MBA teams participating from all around the globe. Participants developed brand strategies for a major technology company looking for expansion into emerging markets, a market entry strategy for a leader in global mining to enter the Russian market, and sustainable green strategies for an oil & gas MNC.

Finalist teams from the UK, Spain, the USA, Toronto, and India were flown into Singapore for a thrilling grand finale in which Team Integrative Thinkers from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management emerged champions, with teams from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and London Business School coming in runner-up and second runner-up position.

Cerebration 2010 continued the tradition of hosting a magnificent event that attracted over 300 entries from business schools from over 30 countries. An effort that took 9 months in the making, the team of '10 spared no effort to create a truly memorable event for the participants, judges, dignitaries and the MBA cohort at NUS itself.

Finalist teams from the London, Canada, China and India were flown into Singapore for a thrilling grand finale in which Team HarryHans from London Business School emerged as champion.

With a record 500 entries from over 120 business schools spread across 6 continents, the highest entries ever received by any business school, Cerebration 2009 was the world's largest business case competition to be managed entirely by MBA students.

Finalist teams from NYU Stern, Duke Fuqua and IIT-Bombay met Case sponsors AsiaTravels.com, Best World International and HealthSTATS International and a 200-strong audiences comprised of leading industrialists, journalists, professors and students in a thrilling grand finale in which the team from Duke's Fuqua School of Management emerged victorious.

Cerebration 2008 attracted over 450 entries from business schools from 6 continents. Our distinguished judging panel comprised some of the brightest minds in the Asian region with key personnel from DBS, SAP, Direct Marketing Association of Singapore, ABN Amro, Cleanway-KLC group of companies, and Radcliffe Invertron.

In addition to the winners, HEC Montreal, three other teams from NUS Business School, London Business School and McGill University made it into the finals held at Grand Hyatt, Singapore. The winning team proposed a global business expansion strategy for one of Singapore's most well-known Microbrewery Restaurants, Brewerkz.

Cerebration 2007 saw a tremendous influx of teams registering for the competition with close to 600 registrations from more than 100 Universities and 30 different countries.

The Entrepreneurs Team from INSEAD, France analysing the 'Thai Express' case study for the Middle East market clinched first position in the Cerebration 2007 Grand Finals, with teams from NUS Business School and Jones Graduate School of Management, HEC Montreal, in runner-up and second-runner-up position.

The judging panel comprised top notch industry representatives from Merrill Lynch, CISCO, Sabre Capital, Financial Times, OSIM, Thai Express, Ron Kaufman, HSBC, Gallup Organization and also CEOs / Top Management and Industry Specialists.

Cerebration 2006 brought together great minds from all across the globe. The BrainCraft Team from Instituto de Empressa, Spain clinched the first position in the Cerebration 2006 Grand Finals in Singapore with their solution for Informatics in the Kuwait market. The Magic Purple Team from the Kellogg School of Management, Nothwestern University, USA emerged as the First Runner Up with a business plan on a TCM player for the US Market. While Team HEC Montreal from Canada emerged as Second Runner Up.

The judging panel comprised top notch industry representatives from Bain & Co, Boston Consulting Group, Sabre Capital, Hewitt Associates, sponsor CEOs / Top Management, Industry Specialists, NUS Business School, IE Singapore and Temasek Holdings.

Asia's business leaders converged at The Grand Copthorne @ Singapore for the Finals of Cerebration 2005. After an enduring battle which featured 350+ teams spanning 4 continents, The Richard Ivey School of Business, Canada emerged victorious with Instituto de Empresa, Spain coming a close second.

Set in the backdrop of Singaporean companies looking to make a global presence, Cerebration 2005 was the ideal platform for business leaders of tomorrow to cross swords in the markets of their choice.
