Up to twelve teams can participate in the NUS Asian MBA Stock Pitch Competition (SPC), with each team contributing three competing students.

Preliminary rounds will consist of two pools of presenters. Judges will consist of investment professionals.

Through the generosity of our donors, the NUS Asian MBA SPC will provide economy-class airfare, accommodation and meals to the three competing students for each team. MBA student hosts from NUS Business School will organise local transportation needs, etc.

Each team will be provided with a specific, assigned workstation in the CAMRI Investment Management & Trading Laboratory, a state-of-the-art investment management facility at NUS Business School. The Lab will be equipped with Reuters, Datastream, Thomson One Investment Analytics, and a variety of other analytical tools. A training session on the use of Reuters, Datastream, Thomson One Investment Analytics etc will be held by training representatives from these firms on the morning of the 2nd Day prior to the competition on the 3rd Day.

In addition, each team will have the use of a private conference room, equipped with wireless Internet access. Team members should bring their own laptops and storage devices for use in the conference room.

After lunch, a common stock and two industries will be assigned to the teams. A list of the eligible set of stocks in each of the two industries will be provided.

Teams must decide whether to present a long (buy), neutral (hold), or a short (sell) recommendation on the common stock based on original fundamental and quantitative analysis.

For each of the two assigned industries, students will be asked to choose a company that they will pitch as either a long, or short candidate.

Teams will have until midnight on the 2nd Day to prepare for the three presentations. After 12:00 a.m., no changes to the presentations are permitted.

All teams will present their recommendations on the common stock and on one industry-specific stock in the preliminary rounds on the morning of the 3rd Day (see Presentation). The two highest scoring teams from each pool in the preliminary round will advance to the final round on the afternoon of the 3rd Day. Participants are required to wear business attire for their presentations.

The four finalist teams will have a short amount of time prior to the final round to practise their presentations in their conference rooms.

Students will be on the honour system throughout the event (see Honour System).

Judges will announce their first-round decisions at the luncheon. Presentation of awards will be made at the afternoon reception.

Press coverage of the NUS Asian MBA Stock Pitch Competition will be sought via NUS Business School’s Corporate Relations & Communications Department, and it is possible that reporters will be in the rooms during the competition. A press release on the results of the event will be dispatched by NUS Business School.
