Letter from CAMRI Director

Dear Alumni of NUS and Friends of CAMRI, Turning Potential into Reality We all have dreams. I have many. Some, we turn into action. Some actions turn into success. There is one success that we have here in NUS Business School. It is CAMRI. I would like every one of you to share in its success. I would like to rally everyone’s support to make CAMRI a phenomenon. We first embarked on the journey to create NUS Business School’s first Centre for Asset Management Research & Investments (CAMRI) in the middle of 2009. We projected that it would take three to five years to accomplish a state-of-the-art educational academy and hands-on training laboratory for our budding financial and fund managers among our student ranks.
Despite a limited budget, we managed to host a number of public lectures, applied finance seminars, forums, conferences, and eminent visiting professors in the field of asset management. We managed to set up a world-class Investment Management & Trading Laboratory, which is now the focal point of CAMRI's teaching, training, and educational activities. Equipped with 32 workstations, state-of-the-art software, databases, and applications for asset management research, portfolio management, and financial risk management, our Lab can rival Wall Street’s best fund houses' investment management and trading facilities. Thus far, we have been teaching three hands-on courses out of the Lab, and we expect to do more in due course as industry experts join the faculty on a full-time or adjunct basis. We aim to provide our students with first-hand experience and training with the best tools available from the professional investment community so as to better prepare them for the challenging and exciting financial industries in Singapore and Asia. In fact, with generous funding by the Singapore financial industry, and in partnership with Cornell University’s Parker Investments Center, CAMRI had the honour of hosting the inaugural NUS Asian MBA Stock Pitch Competition in March 2010. This annual event provided a forum for 36 top MBA students from the best business schools in Asia to compete and showcase their equity research and stock-picking skills in front of a panel of distinguished judges from the Singapore investments industry. This event attracted the best MBA student talent in finance to Singapore. It also showcased Singapore as a world-class asset management centre, while fostering strong relationships. Alumni, friends, and well-wishers, we thank you for your support thus far and we ask you to continue to support us in our efforts to train budding financial and fund managers. By so doing, we do more than emulate the U.S. universities. We also help enhance and improve the quality of Singapore’s position as Asia’s principal investment management hub, as well as support the growth of its financial services sector. We have created a number of giving opportunities at CAMRI, and would be happy to work with you to expand the mission of each giving opportunity. Naming opportunities are also available. With your help, we can do so much more. Your support will help CAMRI groom and mould hundreds of future investors and asset managers for Singapore and Asia.
