This research project will investigate whether family owned firms may be disadvantaged in terms of the development of executive and managerial talent compared to non-family owned firms. It has been suggested that family owned firms under-invest in developmental and talent management practices (e.g. providing training, overseas assignments, etc.) compared to other similarly situated non-family owned firms. We will examine the accuracy of this suggestion by surveying the talent management practices of 100 family and 100 non-family owned firms for comparative purposes. Recommendations will be given based on the results of this study.
