The Singapore Corporate Governance Awards 2006
The Singapore Corporate Governance Awards are endorsed by the Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organizations(formerly CGFRC) in association with leading organisations like Standard and Poor's, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Singapore Exchange, Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS) and Business Times.
The 2006 Singapore Corporate Governance Awards were announced at the Securities Investors Association of Singapore's (SIAS) seventh anniversary dinner and the 2006 Investor Choice Awards held on 22nd September 2006 at Raffles Ballroom, Swissotel the Stamford, Singapore. The event was graced by the presence of the chief guest-of-honour, Dato' Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Deputy Minister of Finance, Malaysia.
The Corporate Governance Awards recognise companies that 'best meet the letter and spirit of the Singapore Code of Corporate Governance' from investors' point of view. Eight awards for good corporate governance were given out to listed companies. This year, SMRT won the first prize for the Main-board category followed by Keppel Corp and Singapore Exchange with the first and second runner-up positions, respectively. For the Sesdaq category, two companies were given merit awards.
Last year's winner SingTel was entered into the Hall of Fame for winning the Corporate Governance Awards consecutively for three years since 2003 and for maintaining a high standard of corporate governance this year. SingTel will not be allowed to compete in the awards for the next three years but will have to maintain its high standard of corporate governance to remain in the Hall of Fame.
